Uniting to Combat Hunger Food Drive

For local people already struggling to feed their families, the pandemic coupled with food shortages and rising costs has created a crisis in our nation and community. “Every day, 1 in 10 of our neighbors does not have enough food to eat.  This includes more than 40,000 children in our community.” The Freehold VFW Auxiliary #4374 is proud to support Fulfill of Monmouth and Ocean County, in their mission to combat hunger. Locally, Fulfill’s mobile pantries serve over 15,734 people in our communities including seniors and veterans.  “Nationally, 25 percent of active-duty military and Reserve members rely on food bank donations to feed their families, including 1 in 4 Iraq and Afghanistan War veterans.”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In 2018 the VFW Foundation joined forces with Humana and Feeding America to launch a campaign and created “Uniting to Combat Hunger”  in an effort to raise awareness and combat food insecurity. To reward the efforts of local VFW posts and Auxiliaries that support the mission, the VFW Foundation created the Uniting to Combat Hunger Grant.  This is a matching grant that will give unrestricted funds to the Auxiliary. The match is in three categories: dollars, pounds, and hours. For every dollar raised the foundation will match it in the form of an unrestricted grant.  Each pound of food collected at the Freehold VFW Post will be donated to Fulfill to distribute to those in need, and then matched dollar per pound. Finally, the foundation will provide a dollar match for every hour that the VFW Auxiliary member who volunteers to address food insecurity in our community.

 

Freehold VFW Auxiliary #4374 could receive up to $5000 in matching grant funds.  We are invested in this cause and dedicated to helping eradicate hunger in our community. It is a unique opportunity to also be able to raise grant funds to further assist our Veterans and their families. We are very excited to partner with multiple organizations, creating a win-win situation for all involved.

 

Please support our food drive by bringing non-perishable food donations(no glass please) directly to the post between 12-8 pm 7 days per week, 50 Waterworks Rd Freehold NJ, 07728 from now until May 14.2022.
